Architecture

Architecture is a constant theme throughout Stephen’s work, in both his professional and artistic achievements. Historic architecture, its conservation and adaptation to modern needs, has made up the majority of his professional practice, while extensions, additions and interventions often present contemporary and innovative design in a more challenging context.

The field of architectural conservation provides for a rich and varied subject matter where a fine line is drawn between mere photographic document and subjective representation.

Commissioned by architects to present their final projects for promotional purposes or architectural competitions and publications, Stephen Farrell’s work treads this fine line with a solid foundation in both photography and architecture.

Below is a selection of professional and some personal bodies of work that reflect the diversity and range of building projects covered over the years.
